April 01, 1914 - May 22, 2012
Eugene K. Cashman, Sr., 98, died at Davis Farms in Lumber City, GA on May 22, 2012.
He was born on April 1, 1914 to Joseph Oscar and Minta Fox Cashman in Waynesboro, PA where he lived as a child, before his father joined the Savannah Sugar Refinery and moved to Savannah. He attended Waynesboro High, the Citadel and obtained a degree from the Lewis School of Hotel Management in Washington, D.C. He married Isabel McRae Cashman in June of 1940, and was invited to become a partner in McRae Construction, Co., eventually becoming proprietor under the name of Cashman Construction, Co. He concluded his career by helping in the restoration and preservation of many well known land mark properties in downtown Historic Savannah. He was a WW II veteran, a past President and member of the Kiwanis Club, Shriners, the original Penguin Club, the Ten Club, Quarterback Club, and German Heritage Society. He was a deacon emeritus at Independent Presbyterian Church where he had been a member for 65 + years. He lived a life worth emulating as he committed and gave daily a full measure of all he had to his faith, family and friends. His wife Isabel McRae Cashman predeceased him two months short of their 70th wedding anniversary.

The family request that memorials be sent to Independent Presbyterian Church, 207 Bull Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401.
I wish to extend condolences for the Eugene Cashman family for both Eugene and Isabel. As you know Eugene and Isabel were among the ten original charter members of the Penguin Club. As chirman, I talked to Eugene and Isabel in 2007 to obtain an accuract history of the Penguin Club and how it began. This information helped me to prepare a 'history of the Penguin Club' which was read to the current members as we celebrated the Golden Anniversary of this dance club. We had a large cake rolled out with candles aflame to cap the off the ceremonies. At this dance we had one couple the we honoured with a certificate for their membership of thirty five years. This year we celebrated Fifty Six contineous years of Savannah's oldest black tie dance club with the history read and cake for all members attending. Thanks to the Cashmans and others who started the Penguin Club.
